Publications and projects

We are involved in various projects and contribute through our expertise.

Projekte der Bibliothek FHNW

AURORA

Automated research output retrieval and self-archiving notification service for authors

In this project co-financed by swissuniversities, ZHAW and FHNW are developing an automated process that locates publications from the university in bibliographic databases, prepares descriptive metadata and enriches it with information for secondary publication. New entries are then created in the (DSpace) repository and the participating university authors are informed about their options for secondary publication.

The aim of the project is to better utilise the potential of Green Open Access in institutional repositories and to simplify the submission process for users.

Project duration: 2023-2025

Robotics

The social robot Pepper supports employees and users in the library on an ongoing basis and is constantly being developed further in a participatory process. ‘Auxilio’ has been in use in Brugg-Windisch since December 2019 and “Pepper-Mint” in Muttenz since September 2020. The slightly less cute, but more modern robot ‘Temi’ has been supporting Auxilio in Brugg-Windisch since January 2023.

On one hand, the social robots give employees and students the opportunity to gain experience in development, programming, testing and evaluation. On the other hand, it enables library users to gain their own experience with social robots. Different scenarios and use cases can be selected to interact with the robots. The aim of the scenarios is for the robot to support library staff in their daily work and to enable a diverse range of users to have a positive interaction experience.

The social robot can help with the following topics:

  • Media pickup
  • Access to e-media
  • "where is" scenario?
  • Library registration
  • Introduction to the library
  • Lunch menu
  • Through the eyes of Pepper
  • Library Quiz
