      Lecturer for Critical Design, Publication Design, Colour, and Drawing as well as Poster Design

      Field of Activity

      Leander Eisenmann teaches in the BA Visual Communication and Digital Spaces programme as well as in advanced education at CAS level. In the Editorial Design and Colour and Drawing modules, he draws on his many years of experience in applied poster and book design and the visual arts and focuses on gaining experience in application-related projects. In the Critical Design module, forward-looking design concepts are developed and tested in their application.

      Biography

      Leander Eisenmann graduated from the Graphic Design class at the Basel Academy of Art and Design in 1991. After completing his studies, he worked in Munich at the Siemens Design Centre, where he was involved in developing the corporate design for the Expo 92 world exhibition, and at Rolf Müller, where he was responsible for HQ, the graphic design magazine. 

      He returned to Switzerland in 1995 and studied Fine Arts at the Zurich University of Art and Design, graduating in 2000.

      In 1997, in parallel with his training, he also began teaching Visual Communication at the Basel School of Design and opened his own design studio in Zurich, focussing on book and poster design. During this time, Leander Eisenmann worked closely with the Zurich Museum für Gestaltung, the Ulm Internationales Forum für Gestaltung, and C.H.Beck, the Munich publishing house. In the following years, his work was honoured several times with the awards Most Beautiful German Books and 100 Best Posters Germany, Austria, Switzerland. In 2002, he received a scholarship to Kunstfabrik am Flutgraben in Berlin. In 2003, he spent a year as a guest lecturer in Graphic Design/Book Design at the Lucerne School of Art and Design.

      Since 2001, Leander Eisenmann has been working as a lecturer for the BA and MA programmes of the Institute Digital Communication Environments at HGK Basel in the field of Visual Communication. Since 2017, he has been increasingly active in the field of visual arts. His work has been shown at book and poster exhibitions in Berlin, Essen, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Lausanne, Lucerne, Seoul, Taipei, Frankfurt am Main, and Zurich, among others. In 2021, the 5-poster series Stop Assad was one of the 100 Best Posters Germany, Austria, Switzerland 2020. In 2022, he was nominated for a work grant from the Canton of Zurich as part of his artistic activities.
