Prosumer Lab FHNW

Prosumer Lab FHNW

The Prosumer Lab offers our partners from the industry and research sector equipment and test benches for testing, developing and testing a wide range of smart grid technologies.

Our offer

In the prosumer lab, we support you in the development, testing and optimization of hardware and software for controlling loads and generators:

  • Development of algorithms for load control and flexibility utilization in prosumer systems (customer-serving, grid-serving, system-serving).
  • Implementation and testing of interfaces for controlling devices (e.g. heat pumps, electric charging stations, battery storage, PV inverters).
  • The automated system can be used to run predefined and, if required, time-scaled test programs. The test results are clearly displayed in a KPI dashboard.
  • The tests in our prosumer laboratory are the sought-after and important intermediate step between the development and roll-out of a technology.

Infrastructure

The test stand is constantly being expanded with new technology. We currently operate the following components:

  • Smart meters from various manufacturers
  • Devices/systems for load control, e.g. from Clemap, Evulution, Tiko
  • PV inverters with artificial DC source
  • Emulated heat pump loads
  • Electric boilers
  • Battery storage, e.g. from E3DC, Varta
  • Charging stations for electric vehicles, e.g. from Evtech, Etrel, Zaptec
  • Various other controllable loads
