Space Lab FHNW

Space Lab FHNW

The Space Lab is used for the development, production, assembly and thermo-mechanical verification of components and mechanical sub-systems for use on research satellites.

Our offer

We develop, manufacture and verify lightweight structures for research satellites, e.g. dimensionally stable optical benches, sandwich structures or radiators for thermal control. We also prepare mechanical strength analyses in accordance with ECSS standards and carry out vibration and shock tests as well as thermal vacuum tests.

Infrastructure

  • Cleanroom ISO7 (17m2) with Laminar-Flowbox (ISO5)
  • Electrodynamic Shaker TIRA TV57315 (15kN) equipped with 24 measurement and control channels for Sine, Random and Shock-Pulse Excitation
  • Shock Test Bench to generate Shock Response Spectra (SRS) equipped with 24 measurement channels
  • Thermal-Vacuum Chamber (0.5m x 0.4m x 0.4m) with Hot-Coldplate (-80°C / +120+C), Rest Gas Analyzer (RGA) and Temperature controlled Quartz Crystal Microbalance (TQCM)

Preparation of space components for functional testing in the thermal vacuum chamber (ESA mission SMILE-SXI).

The Space Lab is part of the FHNW Institute of Product and Production Engineering

  • Institute of Product and Production Engineering

We focus on the development of products and manufacturing processes, and apply cutting-edge technologies.
