Heliophysics

The Heliophysics research group studies the dynamics of the sun, especially in high-energy domains.

The group consists of an international team of physicists collaborating with hardware- and software engineers from the institute.

Research activities

  • Design and construction of telescopes for space missions
  • Data exploitation from these and other missions to generate high-level science data products for the scientific community
  • Scientific analysis and interpretation with these data products

Research focus

  • High-energy solar physics, in particular X-ray observations of solar flares
  • Development of future generations of high precision detectors, grids and indirect imaging techniques for x-ray observation.

Project partners include European Space Agency ESA, European Commission, National Aeronautics and Space Administration NASA, the Agenzia Spaziale Italiana ASI, ETH Zurich, Paul Scherrer Institut, University of California Berkeley, Observatoire de Paris, Astrophysikalisches Institut Potsdam, CEA Saclay, University of Genova, Graz University, Trinity College Dublin
