Professional Appointments
Georgios Imanidis has been Professor and head of the Institute of Pharma Technology of the School of Life Sciences, University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland since 2006. He has been Professor (titular) of Pharmaceutical Technology at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences and member of the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Basel, Switzerland since 2005. From 2000 to 2005 he was full time faculty member by virtue of the docent ("PD") title at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Technology of the University of Basel and from 1992 to 1999 scientific staff member ("habilitand") and head teaching assistant in Pharmaceutical Technology at the School of Pharmacy of the University of Basel. In 1991 he received a scholarship from the Roche Research Foundation to study drug absorption using cell cultures as an alternative to animal experiments at the School of Pharmacy of the University of Basel. From 1988 to 1990 he was senior research scientist in the department of drug absorption studies, TheraTech, Inc., Salt Lake City, UT and adjunct staff scientist in the Department of Pharmaceutics, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT, U.S.A. From 1986 to 1988 he was a post-doctoral fellow in drug delivery research under Prof. W.I. Higuchi in the Department of Pharmaceutics, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT, U.S.A. From 1983 to 1986 he worked as part-time (50%) teaching assistant in Pharmaceutical Technology at the School of Pharmacy of the University of Basel, Switzerland while doing his Ph.D. thesis.

Education / Qualification
Georgios Imanidis was awarded the title of a Professor by the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Basel, Switzerland in January 2006. In 2000 he was awarded the docent ("PD") title by the Faculty of Natural Sciences of the University of Basel through the process of "Habilitation". He received his Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1986 by a thesis in Pharmaceutical Technology carried out under the supervision of Prof. H. Leuenberger at the School of Pharmacy of the University of Basel. In 1982 he received an advanced diploma in Pharmaceutical Technology through post-graduate studies in Pharmaceutical Technology and Industrial Pharmacy at the School of Pharmacy of the University of Basel. In 1980 he graduated with the Pharmacy degree from the Aristotelion University of Thessaloniki, Thessaloniki, Greece. He completed his high school (Gymnasium) education with emphasis on sciences in Serres, Greece in 1976.

Recent highlights of academic activities
In his current position, Georgios Imanidis has established de novo research and teaching at the Institute of Pharma Technology at the School of Life Sciences of the University of Applied Sciences. He developed the study curriculum with emphasis in pharmaceutical technology, established laboratory facilities for teaching and research and built the working group of the Institute currently comprising over 20 members including four faculty members, scientific staff members, assistants and Ph.D. students. His research interest is focused on dermal/transdermal and intestinal drug delivery and absorption with in vitro models. For this, he has established international collaborations, heads his own research group and receives funding from industrial, non-profit and state sources. He has authored more than 50 publications in peer reviewed journals, has presented more than 70 papers in international conferences and symposia, supervised more than 25 doctoral theses and has been invited lecturer internationally.
