Human-AI teaming in manufacturing parts management, FHNW School of Applied Psychology

School of Applied Psychology

Interdisciplinary project to develop an AI-based assistant in logistics

teaser_teaser.png

In this interdisciplinary project, an innovative, AI-supported digital assistant was developed for the management of B/C parts in logistics.

The assistant is characterised by its ability to optimise the interaction between humans, artificial intelligence and organisational processes in order to achieve maximum efficiency. The assistant offers, among other things:

  • Contextual support and dialogue options for identifying and providing items and associated logistics parameters such as stock levels.
  • Integration of a specially developed algorithm for local optimisation of warehouse locations, adapted to changing article requirements.
  • Holistic optimisation of the logistics configuration for the B/C parts management of business customers.

When designing the interaction between humans and digital assistants, a human-centred design approach was pursued that places people and their needs at the centre. The findings of this research project have resulted in a guideline for the successful use of artificial intelligence in knowledge-intensive areas.
