      Digital Power Lab FHNW

The aim of the Digital Power Lab is to develop software and hardware solutions for a sustainable, electrified society.

      Our offer

We offer the development of the following technologies:

      • Design and characterization of SiC and Si power semiconductors, also with regard to their reliability.
      • Design and construction of power electronic converters for photovoltaic, electromobility and railroad applications containing WBG power semiconductors.
      • Test systems for the performance and characterization of power semiconductors and power electronic systems.
      • Efficiency, performance, service life and life cycle analysis of energy systems.
      • Development of optimization and monitoring tools for energy systems.

      Infrastructure

The Digital Power Lab offers the following infrastructure:

      • Parameter analyzer up to 3kV and 500 A with CV meter for the analysis of power semiconductors.
      • High-performance power analyzer for the characterization of WBG converters.
      • Self-built circuit testers.
      • Several customized devices for reliability analysis of power semiconductors, including H3TRB, cosmic ray reliability, etc.
      • Several inverter test benches for testing railroad, e-mobility and photovoltaic inverters.
      • GCP infrastructure for the development of software technologies for energy systems.

300kW inverter for railroad applications with innovative MV SiC semiconductor modules with online monitoring of the junction temperature.

The Digital Power Lab is part of the FHNW Institute of Mathematics and Natural Sciences
