Whose Intelligence is Artificial Intelligence (Working title)

"Whose Intelligence is Artifcial Intelligence" (working title) is a doctoral project aiming at questioning the role of data in Artificial Intelligence. The project aims at finding the algorithmic places in which data is constructed from user interactions. Focusing on Youtube and its recommender system this inquiry will make use of critical debugging as method to discover the data manufacture algorithms.

The main goal of this research is to find the specific algorithms that extract data form users. Furthermore, the research also aims at developing strategies to counter such data extractive practices.

So far, this research led to the discovery of how hovering information is manufactured within youtube. Beside that this work also discovered an alternative playful way to poison data trough sonification.

This doctoral work offers a new perspective on how to counter data extraction practices. In doing so it offers a new view on the figure of the debugger as a luddite that employs playful strategies to resist data extraction.
