Dehlia Hannah: Air`s Inversions

MAKE/SENSE PhD Programme of the FHNW Academy of Art and Design presents a lecture with Dehlia Hannah: Air’s Inversions!

This talk will be about the implications of the Covid-19 pandemic for future thinking and action on climate change. A brief moment of euphoric hope accompanied an unprecedented drop in air pollution and CO2 emissions in 2020, as factories shuttered, air traffic was grounded, and fuel prices plummeted. As skies cleared over major cities worldwide, allowing smog to dissipate from Paris to Jakarta and the Himalayas to appear for the first time across cities in northern India, we became hyperconscious of the thin cushion of air that separates individual breathers. This talk traces shifts and inversions in the vocabulary of atmosphere motivated by these strange circumstances, drawing lessons for future discourse about climate change.
