Andrea Zaccuri (Alumni MDes), Arianna Smaron (Alumna MA) and Alessandra Puricelli (MA) are represented in the exhibition “Hotel Insomnia” in Eindhoven (NL) with works in editorial design. The works were created during their studies in Basel.
Sponglie – Abandoned Places in Milano

In March 2015, the collective VOLUCE was interested in the problem of abandoned places in Milano, which lead to the start of project SPOGLIE. The research was divided into two phases: first, we collected data and pictures of the areas then, in designing the book, we acknowledged how to visually represent these areas.
Thanks to Basil.js we were able to process 330+ places, managing their metadata, drawings and satellite pictures. The code we wrote captured the information from Google Maps and a datasheet organizing them into the book. Due to the complexity of the information, the use of a programming language was a fundamental aspect to visualize and understand the data. The final outcome is a connection between the architectural space and its digital representation.
Li Bai

A reflection upon the chinese poem by Li Bao “Ask the moon with a cup of wine in the hand“, in a bilingual poster-book format. How can the Chinese poem be interpreted by the choice of the layout and the relationship with its english translation?
Li Bao plays with direct figures of speech which remind currents and flows.
The book-poster presented can be read vertically and horizontally and plays on the relationship between the image of the moon and the text.
The moon is an image of my hair, because for Li Bai, in his poem he can see himself in the moon. Therefore the visual interpret the thoughts of the writer also by the movements of the text which is “dancing like a current in the river”. This play is visible in both the languages: the chinese characters placed in vertical and going up and down and the english characters by the changes of the tracking.
Targa Glitch Flip Book

Targa is a raster file format introduced in the end of the 80s, as a file format for the digital images of the TARGA boards.
For many years, the Targa format has been the most precise regarding colours, especially for complex images.
The three images in this book were modified 100 times each using 0xED and the same set of instructions. All the original Targa files were made in Photoshop and saved with 32 bits/pixels setting.
