The project looks at how digital training programmes can help correct cyclists’ skills deficits.
Cycling is healthy, sustainable and gaining in popularity in Switzerland – whether for everyday riding or leisure. The increasing prevalence of e-bikes is also contributing to this. The downside of this trend is the perception that roads are hazardous for cyclists.
Improving them in combination with other measures is an effective way of boosting cycling safety. One of these complementary measures involves promoting cycling skills. This is because interacting with other road users in traffic requires a range of skills that go beyond merely knowing the rules. They include, for example, how to tackle roundabouts safely or recognise critical situations when turning.
In order to promote skills such as this, the project is joining with expert partners in rolling out digital training for cyclists. Initial steps are also being taken to extend the training to other road users. Finally, the acceptance and impact of the training are being analysed from a variety of viewpoints.
