The Swiss Sustainable Polymer Conference (SSPC) is a nationwide platform for exchange that connects industry and academia in the field of the sustainable transformation of the plastics industry. In addition to informative presentations and lab tours, the conference features showcases by innovative partners and startups, as well as a wide range of networking opportunities.

Circular Economy and Sustainable Design

The circular economy is a transformative model that aims to eliminate waste and promote the continuous use of resources. We will explore the principles of the circular economy, including designing out waste, keeping products and materials in use, and regenerating natural systems. Case studies of successful circular economy initiatives will be presented, highlighting the economic, environmental and social benefits of this sustainable approach.

Biopolymers

Biopolymers offer a sustainable alternative to conventional plastics. We will explore different types of biopolymers, their biodegradability, and their potential to reduce our dependence on fossil fuels. The session will address challenges related to production, performance and market acceptance. Swiss companies will present innovative solutions designed to meet the demanding requirements of end users.

Recycling

Composites

Polymer recycling technologies and methods are constantly evolving. We will explore mechanical and chemical recycling processes, innovations in sorting and processing technologies, and the economic and environmental benefits of effective polymer recycling. The focus will be on overcoming current challenges and scaling up these technologies to achieve a significant reduction in plastic waste.

Textiles

The textile industry is undergoing profound changes on its path towards greater sustainability and transparency. The gradual introduction of the Digital Product Passport (DPP) is creating new requirements across the entire value chain. In the future, information on material composition, origin, repairability, recyclability and environmental impact will need to be made digitally accessible.

This session will explore regulatory developments, technical solutions for data collection and provision, and the associated challenges for manufacturers, processors and brand owners. Practical examples will demonstrate how companies can turn these new requirements into opportunities for circular business models and a more sustainable textile industry.

Packaging

Packaging is increasingly subject to regulatory and societal demands. The new European Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) presents companies with the challenge of designing packaging for circularity, increasing the use of recycled materials and demonstrably ensuring recyclability. At the same time, material efficiency, product protection and economic considerations must be balanced.

The conference will provide insights into current developments in sustainable packaging concepts, innovative materials and strategies for complying with future regulatory requirements. Experts from industry and research will demonstrate how companies can actively shape this transition and gain competitive advantages through future-proof packaging solutions.
