Semester abroad
The FHNW maintains friendly relationships with a wide range of renowned universities around the world. As an FHNW student, you therefore have the opportunity to complete a semester abroad. Stays at a partner university are financially supported through the Swiss-European Mobility Programme SEMP, formerly Erasmus+. For details, please contact the International Office.
Internship abroad
IAESTE (International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience) is an international organisation that also offers students at Swiss universities the opportunity to complete paid internships abroad. This often takes place in cooperation with major international corporations.
Partner universities
In principle, students benefit from a stay abroad not only through academic training, but above all through intellectual exchange with people from other countries, new contacts and a generally broadened perspective.
Bilateral agreements currently exist with the following universities and higher education institutions.
English requirements
Check the English language requirements of the university you would like to apply to. Many of our partner universities require at least a B2 level in English at Bachelor’s level and C1 at Master’s level.
Visiting a host university that is not a partner university of the FHNW School of Engineering and Environment or the FHNW School of Computer Science.
The basis for student exchange is a bilateral agreement between the home university and the host university, under which tuition fees are mutually waived.
Many universities, especially in English-speaking countries, also accept international students as so-called “free movers” or self-paying students, provided they pay the tuition fees.
If you are interested in an exchange at an external university that is not a partner of the HTU or HSI, please contact that university directly to find out whether this is possible and what costs are involved.
However, you must clarify in advance with the head of your degree programme whether any ECTS credits from that university will be accepted.
