Polymer Processing Lab FHNW

The Polymer Processing Lab processes and characterises materials according to established procedures, from formulation through prototyping to reuse.

Our offer

We help to develop and test new processes, applications and formulations for innovative, sustainable and industrially viable plastics applications. We support developments from simulation through to recycling.

Infrastructure

  • Planetary mixer, dual asymmetric centrifugal mixer
  • Twin-screw compounder with dosing system
  • Kneader
  • Extruder with haul-off, calibration table and saw
  • Extruder line for flat film, blown film and 3D filament
  • Thermoforming line
  • Injection moulding machines up to 100 t (1000 kN)
  • Heating presses up to 200 tonnes (2000 kN)
  • Universal testing machine 100 kN with a variety of clamping devices
  • Impact test Izod, Charpy
  • MFI device, plate-plate and high-pressure rheometer
  • Measuring device for determining residual moisture
  • Ultrasonic and resistance welding
  • Additive manufacturing FDM, SLS, LFS
  • 3D CAD and FEM software
  • LCA analyses
