“Where Cultures Collide and Ideas Thrive: My International Management Master’s”, FHNW School of Business

26.2.2026 – School of Business

Marc is driven by a natural curiosity that has led him to explore a wide range of industries and accumulate a rich and diverse professional experience. His passion for learning led him to pursue a Master’s in International Management, enriching both his career and global perspective.

  • Story

Marc began his career with an apprenticeship in Switzerland. A hands-on professional, he has always valued the combination of practical experience and theoretical insight. Shortly before completing his Master’s program, he served as Policy Advisor to Federal Councillor Guy Parmelin. He now holds the position of Head of Innovation at the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs. Below is Marc's testimonial on the Master’s programme in International Management.

While some students pursue a Master’s degree immediately after completing their Bachelor’s, it took me twelve years to take that step. I began the Master’s in International Management programme at the age of 38.

The idea of returning to education had been on my mind for quite some time. FHNW’s Olten campus — modern, well located in Switzerland, and renowned for its excellent reputation — immediately appealed to me. From my very first phone call, I sensed that this programme could elevate my career and that my professional experience would bring meaningful value to the classroom. That belief proved true.

One of the programme’s most distinctive strengths is its focus on student experience. The diversity among my classmates — spanning nationalities and personal backgrounds — enriched every discussion. Both inside and outside the classroom, I was surrounded by perspectives that challenged, inspired, and broadened my own. From day one, I felt at home in this environment. This Master’s offered far more than academic knowledge. It showed me that returning to university life is entirely possible at any age — especially within such an inclusive and professional learning culture. The peer exchanges were powerful: every story, every insight added something unique. Expert guidance from both internal and external lecturers, combined with study-abroad opportunities — whether for a semester or summer school — made the experience truly unforgettable.

If I had to name one standout moment, it would be the intensive week in Estonia. Like many of my classmates, I worked part-time. Immersing ourselves together in practical challenges for a full week in another country was incredibly impactful.

I won’t claim this Master’s opened every career door overnight. But it undoubtedly enhanced my credibility, introduced me to new tools and frameworks, and helped me refine how I structure and present my work. Most importantly, it validated the expertise I had built over the years — while framing it within a robust theoretical foundation.

My time at FHNW was also a deeply human experience, rich with unforgettable encounters. For that, I remain profoundly grateful to FHNW and its exceptional team.
