Overview
The field of computational intelligence addresses complex issues in industry, business, administration and society with the help of intelligent, adaptive computing methods. The focus is on advanced algorithms and software solutions from modelling, data analysis, simulation and optimisation, which are used to develop powerful software systems and tailor-made algorithmic approaches.
Our research combines AI & optimisation, quantum AI and the interaction of technology, organisation and people. It ranges from solving challenging decision-making and optimisation problems using quantum computing and GPU-accelerated simulators to designing human-centred intelligent systems, for example with social robotics, explainable AI, chatbots, virtual and augmented reality, and computer vision. With practical, interdisciplinary research, we make a lasting contribution to digital and technological transformation and to the further development of the innovation and quantum ecosystem in north-western Switzerland.
Thematic focus
Research focus
The field of computational intelligence encompasses the following research areas.
AI & Optimisation deals with complex issues from industry and business as well as administration and society, using clever algorithms, software solutions and advanced methods from modelling, data analysis, simulation and optimisation to develop software systems and tailor-made algorithms.
Quantum AI researches the use of quantum computing to solve decision-making and optimisation problems. The focus is on GPU-accelerated simulators and quantum platforms such as annealers, superconducting systems, ion traps and neutral atoms. Quantum AI thus makes a practice-oriented contribution to the quantum ecosystem of north-western Switzerland.
Technology, Organisation & People is dedicated to the interaction of people, organisations and the latest technologies – especially social robots, reasonable AI, chatbots, virtual and augmented reality, and computer vision – with the aim of shaping the digital transformation in a sustainable way.
