With the Carbon Removal Booster, Switzerland is launching a groundbreaking innovation program that specifically promotes solutions for the active removal of CO₂ – for a climate-neutral future.
As the first program of its kind in Switzerland, the Carbon Removal Booster specifically supports projects in the field of carbon dioxide removal (CDR). Initiated and led by ETH Zurich's sus.lab and funded by Innosuisse, the program supports twelve interdisciplinary innovation teams each year. These teams receive financial support and individual coaching to help them develop their ideas effectively.
The Center for Sustainable Management and Circular Economy is part of the consortium and is responsible for designing and conducting open innovation sessions. In an initial format, participants are sensitized to the topic of CDR and gain an in-depth understanding of the complex challenges and interrelationships. Building on this, new project ideas and a pipeline for future innovation projects emerge. In a second session format, the teams reflect on the sustainability impacts of their ideas, identify relevant knowledge gaps, and analyze key assumptions and their implementation potential.
The aim of the booster is to make concrete contributions to Switzerland's climate strategy and to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 with innovative, scientifically sound approaches.
