Information for incoming Exchange Students

Admission criteria

Applicants need to be officially nominated for exchange studies by their home university. Make sure there is a valid student exchange agreement between our institutions. Once nominated, students will receive an e-mail inviting them to apply. Please prepare an official Transcript of records and proof of sufficient language skills for your application dossier.

Teaching language & language requirements

German on Bachelor Level, English on Master Level. Incoming students must have a language level of B2 or higher in German or English, respectively.

Application deadlines

Autumn semester: Nomination 15 April | application BSc 31 May | application MSc 30 April
Spring semester: Nomination 15 October | application BSc & MSc 30 November

Academic year

Autumn semester: CW 38 – CW 2
Spring semester: CW 8 – CW 24

Cost of living

1,500-2,000 Swiss Francs per month, including housing, food, transport and entertainment.

Grants

Exchange students from a European partner university may be eligible to receive a Swiss Mobility grant from the Swiss Government. Please contact the international coordinator at your Home Institution. Further funding options are:

Hirschmann Stiftung

One-off grants available to students pursuing a consecutive master's degree at a Swiss university of applied sciences. Further information can be found on the website.

Rotary Club

Rotary clubs offer scholarships for secondary, undergraduate or graduate study. Scholarships are given by individual clubs; anyone can apply. They last from one to four years and can include an entire degree program. Further information can be found on the website.

SBFI

The State Secretariat for Education, Research and Innovation SERI deals with various grants. Further information can be found on the website. 

SEMP

Swiss-Europeam Mobility Programme (SEMP) for higher education. SEMP gives Swiss higher education institutions the possibility to fund students as well as teaching and administrative staff when studying, teaching or doing a training course in Europe. Further information can be found on the website.

ScholarshipPortal

Accommodation

Room reservations for the incoming students are handled by WoVe, the accommodation office for students in Basel. Please contact wove.ch directly. Other possibilities are www.wgzimmer.ch, www.students.ch, www.studentenhaus.ch or www.studentenwohnheim.ch.
