  • You will learn how to professionally manage leadership and communication in a scientific and technical environment and apply these skills to challenging situations in everyday research.
  • You reflect on your personal strengths and weaknesses as a leader and apply your skills in a targeted manner.
  • You will deepen your skills in change and development management, including practical methods and tools.

Goals and benefits

The CAS Leadership in Science program supports you in performing your leadership role more effectively, reflectively, and scientifically. You will gain new perspectives on your leadership behavior, deepen your understanding of organizational dynamics, and expand your methodological skills.

You will learn to consciously shape your leadership style, promote your personal development, and improve your communication skills in complex decision-making situations. The program is practical, interactive, and geared toward transferring what you learn into your everyday working life.


Target audience

This course is open EXCLUSIVELY to employees of PSI, Empa, WSL, and EAWAG.

CAS courses are aimed at persons with leadership and management responsibilities in the scientific environment and/or at research institutions and who are prepared to critique their everyday actions.


Module overview

The CAS Leadership Science program has a modular structure and combines scientific principles with specific practical applications. In three thematic blocks, you will take an in-depth look at your role as a manager. You will reflect on your leadership behavior, deepen your communication skills, and learn how to confidently shape change processes. The content is specifically tailored to specialists and managers in technical fields and promotes your personal and professional development in a targeted manner.

  • Recognising your own behaviour patterns

Communication (Part 1)

  • Communication in solving technical challenges
  • Leading meetings in the creative development process of technical systems
  • Gender and diversity
Change management / self-presentation skills (Part 2)
  • Dealing with resistance to change
  • Change management at the intersection of day-to-day operations and innovation

  • Tools for creative processes
  • Analysis of the culture in a technical organisation / case studies

The CAS Leadership in Science is generally credited to the MAS Leadership and Change Management.

Requirements

Important: This course is open to registrations from PSI, Empa, WSL and Eawag staff ONLY.

Several years of professional experience as well as being prepared to pursue a demanding continuing education course involving a high degree of self-reflection.
You hold a managerial position or have been earmarked for one.

For the second part (CAS), a university degree or a higher vocational education qualification is also required.
