In this study field, you will acquire comprehensive expertise in the energy-related and sustainable optimization of buildings, districts and cities.

Sustainable Buildings and Cities is part of the Energy and Environmental Technology undergraduate programme. When you register, you choose the study field, but you can still change this up to the end of the third semester or you can combine modules individually.

Swiss buildings are responsible for around a third of greenhouse gas emissions and around 40% of energy consumption. Around 17 million tons of deconstruction material are produced every year and at the same time an area equivalent to seven football pitches is built on every day in Switzerland.

In view of the fact that the Swiss Federal Council wants to reduce emissions to net zero by 2050, sustainably planned buildings and cities are becoming increasingly important. The increasing importance of sustainable construction and the simultaneously recognized shortage of skilled workers in the construction professions is making well-trained specialists more attractive.
