Casting laboratory, FHNW School of Engineering and Environment

School of Engineering and Environment

The Foundry Centre’s casting laboratory at the FHNW offers state-of-the-art equipment and in-depth expertise to facilitate innovative solutions and practical research in the field of foundry technology.

Offer

An inductively heated crucible furnace with a lifting coil mechanism can accommodate various melts with a volume of up to 4 litres. The furnace has a heating power of 50 kW.

In a casting system designed in-house and offering a high degree of flexibility, lost-wax moulds and permanent moulds can be cast using either vacuum or pressurised casting. Casting can be carried out either by gravity or using low-pressure casting.

Infrastructure

  • A moulding sand mixer with a capacity of 60 litres enables the production of sand moulds using organic and inorganic binder systems.
  • Various heat treatment furnaces are used for the further processing of the castings.
