Our offer

Our main services include:

  • Sampling and analysis of environmental contaminants
  • Identification and characterization of microplastics in various media
  • Combined mineralogical and chemical analysis
  • Development and application of specific techniques for the efficient extraction of microplastic particles from environmental samples
  • Use of advanced equipment such as UV light microscopy and NIR hyperspectral cameras for special and detailed investigations

Additionally, we support you with:

  • Development and use of AI models and algorithms for environmental data analysis, pattern recognition and predictive analysis
  • Conducting ad-hoc experiments and developing new analytical methods to answer specific research questions or industrial requirements

Infrastructure

The laboratory for microplastics and pollutant imaging uses the infrastructure of the biomass chemistry laboratory and applies specialized measuring and analysis equipment:

  • High-speed and high-resolution FX-17 NIR hyperspectral camera (spectral range 900 - 1700 nm) + SP laboratory equipment + SpecimINSIGHT software tool for data exploration)
  • AI models and algorithms for environmental data evaluation, pattern recognition and predictive analysis.
  • UV light microscope for large environmental samples up to 4cm diameter (Hikrobot MV-CH250-90GC-V4 camera, Myutron MGTL0345V objective, Falcon FLDR-i100B-UV24-W)
Microplastic detection in environmental samples.

The Biomass Chemistry Laboratory is part of the Institute of Bioenergy and Resource Efficiency FHNW

Institute of Bioenergy and Resource Efficiency

The energetic utilisation of biomass and the optimisation of material and energy flows are the focus of our scientific work.
