Aims and benefits

You will explore the transformative power of digitalisation and automation, and how they are influencing the future of chemistry in drug discovery, chemical engineering and process development. Combining theoretical foundations with hands-on experience, this seminar equips you with future-ready skills for modern lab environments.

 By the end of the seminar you will be able to:

  • predict structure, reactivity & properties in modern drug discovery
  • transfer what you’ve learned directly into your workplace for immediate impact

Target audience

This seminar is designed for professionals in the chemical and life sciences industries.

It is also open to FHNW students. The combination of working professionals and students creates a dynamic and mutually enriching learning environment. While professionals benefit from fresh academic perspectives and the chance to connect with emerging talent, students gain insight into real-world industry practices, expand their network and engage directly with experienced practitioners.

Requirement: Bring your personal notebook/laptop.


Structure and programme contents

This 5-day seminar combines presentations from industry leaders, interactive lectures, real-world case studies and practical exercises. This ensures that participants not only understand the concepts but can also apply them effectively. One or two guided excursions will provide first-hand insight into how digitalisation and automation are being implemented in modern industrial environments.

The seminar covers the following topics:

  • Molecular Modelling / Receptor Simulation using Schrödinger’s Maestro Software
  • Databases and data integration with Extract, Transform and Load (ETL)
  • Drug discovery: examples and case studies
  • Extended reality (Augmented and Virtual)
  • Laboratory Automation and Robotics - fully automated laboratories

Individual days are also bookable (330 CHF per day).
