Solar cells based on semiconductors with a perovskite structure have seen an impressive increase in performance in recent years and can convert sunlight into electrical energy with a photovoltaic efficiency of up to 28%. In addition to challenges related to scaling up to large areas and ensuring long-term stability, a closer analysis of cell architectures and manufacturing processes shows that certain sustainability aspects should be addressed in large-scale production.
This presentation provides an introduction to the operating principles of perovskite solar cells and illustrates how the sustainability of the technology can be improved through the use of novel materials, processes, and recycling strategies.
