Bio-enabling formulations (PEARRL), FHNW School of Life Sciences

School of Life Sciences

Research and development on bio-enabling formulations as part of the EU-project PEARRL

The PEARRL (Pharmaceutical Education And Research with Regulatory Links) project is a European Training Network (ETN) and is funded under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme (Marie Sklodowska-Curie actions). There are nine beneficiaries as well about the same number of partner organizations.

In PEARRL, young researchers will work together with experienced academic, industrial and regulatory scientists to develop innovative formulation strategies for promising drugs so that they can be brought to market, and to create robust biopharmaceutics tools that can facilitate faster approval of new drugs by regulatory authorities.

The University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW) has the lead on the bio-enabling formulation work package and a particular focus is on lipid-based formulations as well as on amorphous solid dispersions. Apart from novel oral formulations, the project also develops new computational and in vitro tools to support formulation development.
