Identifying molecular mechanisms of action of pesticides and their influence on the behaviour of bees and bumblebees
Rising insect mortality has been observed worldwide for several years now. This also affects important pollinating insects such as honey bees, humming bees and wild bees. The various factors leading to the decline of honey bees include parasite infestation (e.g. Varroa mite in honey bees), the decline of flowering plants and their diversity, and the use of pesticides.
The aim of our research is to determine the molecular modes of action of plant protection products and to identify their influence, among other things, on the behavior of bees. Based on this knowledge, the risk of pesticides for honey bees and other pollinators can be assessed.
