Professional career
Annekatrin Klein studied piano and instrumental pedagogy at the Berlin University of the Arts and at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique Lyon in the classes of Prof. Elena Lapitzkaja and Prof. Géry Moutier. As a pianist and performer, she devotes herself to various forms of music theatre and is a regular guest at festivals and venues throughout the German-speaking world, including the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, the Konzerthaus Berlin, the Tonhalle Zurich, the Radialsystem Berlin, the theatres in Bielefeld, Oldenburg, Bern, and Bonn, the Gare du Nord Basel, the Davos Festival, the Lucerne Festival and the Montfort Zwischentöne.
She has a long-standing collaboration with the Weitwinkel artists' group (founded by Leo Dick and Tassilo Tesche). Her project partners also include violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja, clarinettist and curator Reto Bieri, director Anselm Dalferth, pianist Sinforosa Petralia and many others.
With the Phantasten collective, which she initiated, she has been realising music theatre formats for young audiences in changing constellations since 2014, building on earlier works in a broader context.
From 2010 to 2012, Annekatrin Klein was a scholarship holder of the "Masterclass on Music Education", an excellence initiative of the Körber Foundation Hamburg (Germany) in the field of music education. She has served several times as a juror for the international concert dramaturgy competition "Hugo" (A) and in 2022 for the D-bü competition of German music academies.
From 2004 to 2014, she was a member of the management team at the Bern Conservatory Music School, where she was responsible for keyboard instruments and music theory as well as the gifted and talented programs. She also taught a piano class there.
Since 2014, she has been the head of the MA Music Pedagogy Instrument / Voice (Classical Profile) program at the Basel Academy of Music FHNW, where she teaches various music didactics subjects.
