Daniel Dettwiler was born in 1974 and lives in Switzerland near Basel with his family.

He studied Audio-Design at the "Academy of Music" in Basel from 1996 to 2001 and founded his own company "Idee und Klang Dettwiler" shortly after in 2002, which was expanded in 2004 to become today's Idee und Klang Studio.

With its assembly of the most significant collection of historic microphones and one of the most impressive anlog audio outboards in Switzerland, today's Idee und Klang Studios offer high-end recording and mixing services for the production of acoustic music, especially classical, jazz and film music.

As a recording engineer, Daniel is specialized in the production of acoustic music, especially large and small jazz music as well as film music.
Accordingly are his references. He has worked on productions with ECM, Herbert Grönemeyer, London Symphony Orchestra, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Pierre Favre, Niki Reiser, Ute Lemper, David Klein, WDR Big Band, Kolsimcha, Nils Wogram, Jasmin Tabatabai, Christian Zehnder, Mark Turner, Jorge Rossy and many more.

Daniel Dettwiler has also worked as an audio designer for concerts, including for the composers Beat Gysin, Andrea Molino, Thomas Kessler and Heiner Goebbels.

One of his engineering specialties is film music. He is one of the most sought-after Tonmeister for film music in Switzerland and Germany and has realized numerous film music productions such as "The White Massai", "Das Blaue vom Himmel", "Huck Finn", "Heidi", and "The diary of Anne Frank".
In addition, he often works on film scores as a pianist.

In 2003, Daniel began giving lectures at Musikhochschule Basel (Applied Production Technique and Realisation) and, in 2018, became professor of Sound Engineering. He also teaches at the University of Arts in Zürich since 2013.

Daniel is a regular presenter at conferences, e.g. AES, VDT and universities.
2019 he organized the "Sheer Pleasure of Sound", a large audio conference and seminar together with the iconic Al Schmitt and George Massenburg.

Daniel loves to develop special approaches for unique projects. Here are some notable examples like audio design and spatial orchestration for the New BMW Museum in Munich and "Magicbox", the State Grid Pavilion at the Expo 2010 in Shanghai and the composition of the acoustic layout for DRS3 and DRS2.
