Martina Papiro studied art and musicology as well as German studies in Basel, Berlin and Florence. Her research interests include music iconography, the connection between the visual arts and music in the early modern period and visuality in opera.

Martina Papiro has been a research assistant in the research department of the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis / FHNW since 2016.

She completed her doctorate in 2012 on the printed graphics of Florentine festive culture in the 17th century. As an art historian and musicologist, Martina Papiro has been involved in various interdisciplinary research projects: Research Network «Theater und Fest in Europa» (FU Berlin, 2006–2009), «Das wissende Bild» Epistemologie frühneuzeitlicher Bilder (KHI/Max Planck-Institut Florence, 2009–2011) and research projects on string instruments around 1500 (Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, 2011-2015). Martina Papiro also works as a translator, radio journalist and exhibition curator.

2023-2025 she is taking part in the "Incubator for Design Cultures" funding program at the HGK / FHNW and is head of the "Mobile Baroque Stage" project, combining research and practice in cooperation with the BA Interior Design and Scenography of the HGK.

She teaches at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in the field of music history and in the master's colloquium and offers the Declamation Café with Deda Cristina Colonna. Other teaching activities are part of the Music and Research and the Music and Scene in Transformation study programmes.

Since 2022, Martina Papiro has been one of the ten FHNW persons of trust for personal and academic integrity. The persons of trust are available to all FHNW members for easy-access advice.
