Expertise

a) praxisorientierte Forschung, Studien zu und Vermittlung von praktischem Musikwissen;
b) Musik und Intermedialität (z.B. Dieter Roth, Mauricio Kagel, Ernő Király);
c) kritisch-philologische Forschung zur Neuen Musik, analytische Quellenstudien (insbesondere zur Musik in der Schweiz und in Ungarn).
Diese drei Interessengebiete sind eng miteinander verwoben.

Career


Professional career

Michael Kunkel, geboren 1969 in Winz-Niederwenigern/Ruhr.
Studium der Musikwissenschaft und Allgemeinen Rhetorik an der Universität Tübingen, 2005 Promotion an der Universität Basel. 2000-2006 journalistische Tätigkeiten (Basler Zeitung, Tages-Anzeiger, etc.). 2004-2015 Chefredaktor der mehrsprachigen Zeitschrift Dissonance. Seit 2007 Forschungsleiter an der Hochschule für Musik Basel FHNW, Klassik, Lehrauftrag, auch am Musikwissenschaftlichen Seminar der Universität Basel. Seit 2016-2023 Kurator von "Next Generation", dem Studierendenprogramm der Donaueschinger Tage für Neue Musik. Forschungen, Schriften, Kuratierungen, Lehrtätigkeit, Radiosendungen, Ausstellungen vor allem zur zeitgenössischen Musik. Eigene künstlerische Aktivitäten.
