Curriculum Vitae

Paolo Pandolfo ist ein richtungsweisender Musiker in der europäischen Szene der Alten Musik. Sein Interesse an Renaissance- und Barockmusik begann 1979 mit der Gründung des Ensembles La Stravaganza zusammen mit Rinaldo Alessandrini und Enrico Gatti. Nach einem Studium am römischen Konservatorium kam er 1981 an die Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, um in die Welt der Viola da gamba einzutauchen. Bald danach kam es zu einer fruchtbaren musikalischen Zusammenarbeit mit seinem Lehrer Jordi Savall in dessen Ensemble Hespèrion XX. 1989 wurde Paolo Pandolfo Dozent für Viola da gamba an der Schola Cantorum Basiliensis, eine Lehrstelle von eminenter Bedeutung, die vor ihm August Wenzinger und Jordi Savall inne hatten. Seither liegt der Schwerpunkt seiner Unterrichtstätigkeit in der Schweiz, wo er seit 1992 auch das Gambenensemble "Labyrinto" anführt. Neben den "klassischen" Werken für Viola da gamba aus dem 17. und 18. Jahrhundert hat er immer ein spezielles Interesse am weniger bekannten frühen Repertoire des Instrumentes gezeigt. In der CD-Serie Schola-Documenta ist er mit Aufnahmen von italienischer Musik für Gambenensemble, mit Bachs Gambensonaten und mit Viola Bastarda-Diminutionen vertreten.

Per Sommer 2025 wird Paolo Pandolfo an der Schola Cantorum Basiliensis emeritiert. Sein Nachfolger ist François Joubert-Caillet
