Minor in Orchestral Performance and Literature

In-depth exploration of orchestral performance and literature

This Minor is aimed at students who wish to become a professional orchestral musician. In addition to their Major studies, the Minor also covers the orchestra repertoire (orchestral passages and projects) and provides students with the opportunity to take part in ensemble projects. Students study orchestra-specific subjects alongside their Major studies. Once a year, students take part in an intensive rehearsal exercise led by experienced orchestral musicians.

Admission requirements
  • Passed the entrance exam for the chosen Master's programme and confirmation of admission
  • A cover letter setting out experience to date in orchestral performance and the reasons for choosing this Minor
  • Place availability
Structure

Structure Minor Klassik Orchestral Performance and Literature in German

Minor in Orchestral Performance and Literature (14 CP):

  • Orchestral passages (as part of the Major)
  • Orchestral internship/Orchestral practice
  • Orchestral studies for strings
  • Orchestral rehearsal exercise

Minor in Orchestral Performance and Literature - Elective module (6 CP):

  • Second instrument or period counterpart (on application)
  • Chamber Academy Basel, conducting for advanced instrumentalists
  • Elective courses
