Cadence® Academic Network, FHNW School of Engineering and Environment

School of Engineering and Environment

We are member of the Cadence® Academic Network (CAN). The aim of the CAN is to promote the proliferation of leading-edge technologies and methodologies at universities renowned for their engineering and design excellence.

topbild_ise_v1.jpg

The Cadence® Academic Network (CAN), a knowledge network among selected universities, research institutes, industry advisors, and Cadence, was established to facilitate the sharing of technology expertise in the areas of verification, design and implementation of microelectronic systems, and significantly support and improve the universities’ activities.

The Academic Network became an integral part of CDNLive! where universities and industry members are offered a knowledge exchange platform to demonstrate scientific achievements, present ideas, and establish further collaborations.

The Cadence Academic Network manages a page for discussions and opportunities on LinkedIn, and information can also be found on the Cadence Academic Network web page. On LinkedIn, the groups are moderated by the lead institutions of the Academic Network ensuring a constant flow of reviewed information relevant to academia.

Task of the ISE in the CAN

The ISE is member of the Cadence Academic Network as “Lead Institution for Analog Mixed-Signal Methodology“ and “Lead institution for Design for Test”. We create cutting-edge mixed-signal ASICs and systems, and our ASIC-Designs as well as the education are focused on readiness for production designs. Therefore we also specify testability early in the project phase, and we use DFT-Tools and „ad hoc test structures“ in the ASICs – always with the goal of a high testability at reasonable test cost.

Competencies, Activities

Competencies and activities of the ISE include the whole path from a sensor through sensor electronics, analogue and digital signal processing, and communications of the evaluable signal on a computer

Education

The ISE use Cadence Tools in the profile Microelectronics of the “Bachelor Curriculum Elektro- und Informationstechnik (EIT)”, especially in the modules Analog Circuits and Mixed-Signal Circuits and in the Microelectronics/Communications Lab.

In the Master curriculum (Master of Science in Engineering, MSE), the students use Cadence Tools for practical work on research projects in analogue and mixed-signal design.

Application-Oriented Research

Industry licenses available at the ISE allow us to cooperate with industry to transfer research results into products.
