Short biography

Nach einer ersten musikalischen Ausbildung mit den Schwerpunkten Violine und Komposition am CNR Rueil-Malmaison (Frankreich), beschäftigte sich Baptiste Romain intensiv mit der Musik des Mittelalters und der Renaissance. Es folgte eine Ausbildung am Centre de Musique Médiévale in Paris bei Marco Horvat, und schliesslich ein Studium an der Schola Cantorum Basiliensis bei Randall Cook, Dominique Vellard und Crawford Young, das er 2008 mit Auszeichnung abschloss.

Zusätzlichen Unterricht erhielt er von Pierre Hamon am CNS Lyon. Während seiner Basler Zeit beschäftigte er sich neben verschiedenen Varianten der Fidel und des Rebec auch intensiv mit der Technik und dem Repertoire der Renaissancevioline. Baptiste Romain bemüht sich stets um neue Klänge und Techniken, um den hohen Anforderungen der historischen Musikpraxis gerecht zu werden. Darüber hinaus gilt sein Interesse der instrumentalen Begleitung des Gesangs, historischer Improvisation und früher Instrumentalmusik.

Er tritt mit seinem eigenen Ensemble Le miroir de musique auf, arbeitet aber auch mit anderen renommierten Gruppen, wie Leones (Marc Lewon). Ensemble Gilles Binchois (Dominique Vellard), per-sonat (Sabine Lutzenberger), Tetraktys (Kees Boeke), Les Jardins de Courtoisie (Anne Delafosse-Quentin), Peregrina (Agnieszka Budzinska-Bennett), Les Flamboyants (Michael Form), Doulce Mémoire (Denis Raisin Dadre). Zudem unterrichtet er Geschichte der mittelalterlichen Musik (9. bis 15. Jh.), Kontrapunkt und Analyse an der Universität Besançon.
