Curriculum Vitae
Lea Sobbe combines her exploration of early music and its performance practice with an interest in new music and free improvisation. Her artistic work focuses on interdisciplinary constellations with the collective [sic]nals, as well as her work in her ensembles Amaconsort, Sonorità and Echo Temporis Consort.
Lea enjoys re-discovering, expanding and questioning her musical practice also as a teacher. She has been teaching at the Institute for Early Music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz since 2021, where she was appointed Professor of Historical Wind Instruments / Recorder in 2023.
Her projects have taken Lea to international festivals such as the Lucerne Festival, Laus Polyphoniae Antwerp and the FELIX! Festival Cologne, where she has presented solo recitals, music performances and chamber music programmes. In 2021, Lea was awarded the Prix Credit Suisse Jeunes Solistes, in the same year she was among the laureates of the MA Competition Bruges and won 1st prize at the Van Wassenaer Concours Utrecht with her ensemble Amaconsort. She received further awards at the MOECK SRP Solo Recorder Competition London, the Biagio Marini Competition (Sonorità) and the German Music Competition (Amaconsort), among others.
The debut CD "A Bird Fancyer's Delight" by her ensemble Sonorità was released in October 2022.
After studying at the Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg and the HfM Saar with Thomas Kügler, Lea studied with Katharina Bopp and Conrad Steinmann at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis from 2014 to 2021. She completed her artistic and pedagogical studies there with the highest honours. Lea deepened her experience with contemporary free improvisation in a supplementary course at sonic space at the Hochschule für Musik Basel. During her studies she was supported by scholarships from the Lyra Foundation and the Study Award of the Migros Kulturprozent.
From the autumn semester 2024-24 Lea Sobbe will teach recorder, consort and didactics at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis.
