Integrated intelligence for diagnostics and therapeutics
The Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence for Health (aiHealth Lab) at the FHNW School of Life Sciences is led by Prof. Dr. Enkelejda Miho. Our group is part of the Institute of Medical Engineering and Medical Informatics located in Muttenz, Switzerland.
Our group’s research focuses on the emerging field of artificial intelligence applied to health. Artificial intelligence represents methods to process large-scale data and recognise the patterns within. Health data is generated from a variety of sources and includes molecular profiles, medical records, and real-world data.
The mission of our group is to apply artificial intelligence to set standards, understand mechanisms and guide decisions in healthcare. With these aims, health data is generated in the laboratory, collected from public sources, and obtained through collaborations with biopharmaceutical companies and hospitals. Our group uses advanced analytics for personalised medicine, drug discovery and development, and decision support systems. Our vision is to develop integrated intelligence for diagnostics and therapeutics.

Research focus areas
Research at the aiHealth Lab aims to understand the complexity of the immune response at the interface of health and disease. Integrate this complexity to the clinical, traditional and digital biomarkers is an open venture towards digital twins.
We are interested in establishing methods that unravel the multi-factorial determination of the immune response with age, measure the dynamics at the single-cell level and illustrate the immune repertoire imprints within the individual’s journey of health.
Deepening the understanding of personal and herd immunity through data integration, we aim to provide insights into disease mechanisms, and predict response to treatment, and thus guide the discovery of novel and safe therapeutics such as antibodies, nanobodies and vaccines.
