Curriculum Vitae
As a violinist, Lathika Vithanage focuses on the intersection of historical performance and the Alexander Technique. Her work is guided by the idea that musical clarity and rhetorical expression are most accessible when the body is free from unnecessary tension. Whether performing or teaching, she is interested in how we can maintain a healthy, sustainable practice that supports our creative lives. Lathika’s journey began in Australia, eventually leading her to Europe where she studied under the guidance of Stefano Montanari and Amandine Beyer. After ten years of freelancing with ensembles such as La Cetra Barockorchester Basel, L’Arpeggiata, Accademia Bizantina, Concerto Italiano and Cappella Mediterranea, a chronic injury forced a period of reflection. This led her to train as an Alexander Technique teacher in Freiburg with Aranka Fortwängler, a process that changed her relationship with the violin and shifted her focus toward helping other musicians navigate the physical and psychological demands of their lifestyle.
Since the academic year of 2025-26 Lathika has been serving as the teaching assistant to Amandine Beyer at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis. She enjoys exploring the Baroque violin alongside her students, viewing the classroom as a two-way process of discovery. Her wish is to help students find a greater sense of ease and freedom in their playing, while remaining true to the philosophy and aesthetics of historical performance.
