On 18 June 2026, the Electronic Studio Basel (ESB) participated in the Next Generation Festival in Karlsruhe, Europe’s largest gathering of university studios for electronic music, curated by Dr. Lea-Luka Sikau.
Bachelor students from the ESB presented a concert, while ESB co-head Svetlana Maraš delivered the closing keynote of the accompanying symposium. ESB returned to the festival after a thirteen-year absence, having last participated in 2013.
During the festival, each participating studio is given the opportunity to present work by its students. ESB was represented by the ESB Noise Ensemble, a live electronic music project centred on collective musicianship and collaborative performance with electronics. The ensemble consists of Bachelor students from the ESB and is artistically directed by Svetlana Maraš. The ESB Noise Ensemble’s notable appearances include a live broadcast on Swiss Radio SRF 2 Kultur in 2022 and a performance with AGF (Antye Greie) in 2026.
