      Learning objectives

Electrical engineering plays a central role in technical discussions today. Both for understanding the basic function of many components in automation or in the increasingly important field of electrical energy trading. Students gain an insight into the methods and ways of thinking required in electrical engineering to describe simple electrical systems.

      Terms and methods:

      • Elementary quantities of electrical engineering (charge, field, potential,
      • Basic laws of electrical engineering
      • Application of Kirchhoff's laws
      • Basic circuits of electrical engineering
      • Energy storage capacitors and coils
      • Actuating voltage and its applications
      Summary

The students know the conservation laws of electrical engineering and their significance in simple networks. They can set up the correct mesh and node equations in a circuit and calculate the currents and voltages in the system. Students can understand the behavior of sources under different loads and model and calculate the associated circuits. They know the most important battery system technologies and can calculate them. Students know the principle of generating alternating voltage (3-phase) and understand the basics of the pointer representation of alternating signals. Students know the importance of active and reactive power for energy transmission. They will be able to assess a power oscillation according to its active and reactive components and take into account the significance of energy storage systems.
