      Overview
      Students are able to apply composite materials in structural applications and know the possibilities and limitations. They know: Tasks and properties of fiber and matrix materials, Knowledge about textile semi-finished products and their influence on component and processing Fiber-compatible engineering with basic design rules Design principles Fundamentals of the dimensioning of fiber composite structures Introduction to classical laminate theory (CLT) Strength verification, failure criteria and evaluation of damage mechanisms
      Learning objectives
      The students know the structure of the fiber-reinforced composites and the peculiarities of their behavior. They are able to define a suitable laminate structure and to design simple structures by applying the classical laminate theory. In addition, they are able to apply the specific design rules for fiber-reinforced composites to typical lightweight application.
