Structure and programme contents
The «UX/UI Design» workshop teaches the theoretical and creative basics of screen design. The workshop focuses on practical work. Course participants will develop their own interactive application through conceptualization, prototyping, and detailed design. Design principles for user guidance (navigation, editing & manipulation, and user assistance) and screen design (digital layouts, colour, and typography) are discussed in-depth. Aspects of user research and user testing will be discussed, but are not the main focus of this workshop week. Instead, the use of the Figma program as a tool will be taught.
Programme

General Information Workshops Institute Digital Communication Environments (IDCE)
The Institute Digital Communication Environments (IDCE) offers workshops for students, educators and graphic designers.
The workshops afford insights into topical themes of visual communication for analogue and digital communication channels in a study programme reflecting the rich tradition of the Basel School of Design. Practical exercises with a high level of professionalism form the core of the workshops focus. Reflection as well as contextual knowledge will be conveyed by way of input sessions, allowing participants’ work to be judged within a contemporary, future-oriented context relevant to professional practice.

As co-founder of Claudiabasel, a graphic design agency, he is responsible for the conception, design, and programming of countless websites, online applications, and information systems for commercial and cultural institutions. In both his work and teaching, Thomas Bircher explores the tension between aesthetics and usability. Thomas Bircher develops tools and interfaces allowing new forms of interaction to be tested
Requirements and admission
Design skills are an advantage (layout, colour, and typography). It is advisable to install the Figma program in advance and familiarize yourself with its functions (tutorials). Although Figma will be introduced step by step in the workshop, prior knowledge will make it easier to realize your own ideas.
The continuing education programs are primarily aimed at individuals with an academic degree from a recognized university and relevant professional experience after graduation.Individuals with equivalent qualifications will be admitted if their eligibility for participation is demonstrated by other evidence.
