The HGK Basel honours outstanding art and design projects on the topic of sustainability by students of the HGK Basel with a studio residency at the Sitterwerk in St. Gallen. Applications for the Next Generation Sustainability Award (NEXA) 2026 are open until 22 February 2026.
The Next Generation Sustainability Award, or NEXA for short, was initiated by HGK Basel in 2024 to raise the profile of and promote projects by HGK Basel students on the topic of sustainability. A jury of external experts and HGK Basel students selects projects and awards them with a four-week studio residency at Sitterwerk in St. Gallen.
The studio stays at Sitterwerk, which are scheduled for August 2026, offer the award winners a special opportunity to further develop their work in a creative environment. During their stay, the award winners will have access to the project studio, the materials archive and the art library of the Sitterwerk Foundation. They will also be able to benefit from the special atmosphere of the Sitter Valley. A public event on site is part of the studio residency.
As part of the FHNW's Sustainability Week 2026, the projects selected for the NEXA Awards 2026, which will be rewarded with a studio residency at Sitterwerk, will be presented on 19 March 2026 at the CIVIC of the HGK Basel.
