Shortbiography

Since 2013, Prof. Dr. Jörg Wiesel has been co-head with Prof. Dr. Nicolaj van der Meulen of the Institute Aesthetic Practice and Theory at HGK FNNW. From 2011 to 2013 Wiesel held a professorship on cultural studies and performance at the Institute of Fashion Design and Master Design Studio HGK FHNW. In 2007 he received his habilitation at the FU Berlin with a thesis on the cultural history of piracy. Wiesel was, from 2005 to 2010, visiting professor at the Department of Theatre Studies at the FU Berlin. His PhD on theatre and the monarchy in the 19th century won the Amerbachpreis of the University of Basel in 2001. In addition, he has been lecturer, researcher and assistant at the universities of Kiel, Giessen (Institute for Applied Theatre Studies), Basel and Zurich, and at the FU Berlin. From 1986 to 1988 he was assistant director at the Schauspielhaus Dortmund. From 1984 to 1990, he studied theatre and Literature in Munich.
