Foundation in Information Technology
In every IT profession, certain basic skills in dealing with computers are essential. These include the efficient and safe use of modern operating systems and an understanding of their differences. Even if there is no graphical user interface, the students must be capable of using a system by knowing the most important commands of the terminal and how to apply them. Knowledge of the general structure of computer hardware and the interaction of the individual components is also relevant, for example to make sensible decisions regarding the purchase of IT systems.
Hardware
Students know the important components of a computer and how they work. They are familiar with the rough structure of a processor and can explain how a computer handles input and output.
Operating systems / file systems
The students know the advantages, disadvantages, and areas of application of modern operating systems, as well as their histories. They can use different file systems sensibly and know their possibilities and limitations.
Linux shell
The students are able to control a Linux environment from the command line and know the most important commands. They can read and understand simple bash scripts.
Security
The students have a sensible handling of passwords and can use SSH keys to establish connections with other systems. They know which basic elements of security are provided by the operating system or the file system.
