The continuing education programme of the Institute Art Gender Nature (IAGN), Multispecies Spaces Lab, explores how architecture and art can create spaces for many species. The results will be showcased at the Kunsttage Basel from 28 to 30 August 2026.
What if we stopped constantly building new things – and instead began to rethink what already exists? The new continuing education programme, Multispecies Spaces Lab, run by the Institute for Art, Gender and Nature (IAGN) at HGK Basel, explores precisely this question.
In a seven-day intensive workshop at the intersection of architecture and art, participants explore how spaces can be created that are intended not only for humans, but for many forms of life at the same time. Using new materials, collaborative methods and a careful examination of what already exists, a different way of building and living is being tested here. The results of these processes will be presented from 28 to 30 August in the ‘der TANK’ exhibition space at HGK Basel.
The Multispecies Spaces Lab continuing education programme, run by the Institute Art Gender Nature (IAGN) at HGK Basel, is led by Chrissie Muhr and Chus Martínez. Guests and experts on the programme include Céline Baumann, Justine Bell, Lucia Pietroiusti, Filipa Ramos and Yuri Tuma.
On Saturday 29 August 2026, from 10 am to 11 am, the exhibition will be presented as part of a breakfast talk.
The Multispecies Spaces Lab exhibition forms part of the Kunsttage Basel, which will take place from 28 to 30 August 2026.
