After his diploma studies in Audiovisual Media at the Cologne Academy of Media Arts followed by an MA in Design Interactions at the Royal College of Art in London, Ludwig Zeller began working as a lecturer and researcher at the FHNW Academy of Art and Design Basel in 2011. In 2023, he defended his doctoral thesis of Spekulative Artefakte. Ästhetik und Fiktionalität der kritischen und (meta-)spekulativen Gestaltung [Speculative Artefacts. Aesthetics, and the Fictionali-ty of Critical and (Meta)Speculative Design] in Art and Media Studies at the Cologne Academy of Media Arts. He led five research initiatives within the FHNW University Teaching 2025 on the digitalization of teaching through generative AI and spatial computing. He also led an SNF – Spark project and an SNF – Agora project on spatial sound processes as media of speculative design. From March 2024, Ludwig Zeller will lead an SNF – Spark project on emergent sound practices in mixed realities.
In parallel to his academic career, Ludwig Zeller worked for several years as a freelance designer and software developer for web applications and exhibitions and is a co-founder of the creative coding platform “basil.js” as well as being primarily responsible for the spatial computing OpenSoundLab app. Ludwig Zeller has also been active in the international exhibition business for many years with his artistic and creative practice. His work has been shown at the following venues and events: V2_ Rotterdam, FILE Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, MU Eindhoven, Arnolfini Bristol, Haus der elektronischen Künste Basel, Vögele Foundation Zurich, Resonate Festival Belgrade, and Q21.
