      Overview
A good product is based on the proper material choice and the according manufacturing process. The huge success of polymer applications is mainly based on the versatile and efficient possibilities of the more and more digitalized polymer processes. In this module, the students learn special procedures within the injection moulding technology, which in some cases involves a combination of different individual procedures:
      • Thermoplastic injection moulding: High and low pressure processes, Multi-component processes, gas- and fluid-assisted processes, Foam injection moulding, back-injection moulding and overmoulding processes
      • Powder injection moulding (metal, ceramics)
      • Thermoset and Elastomer injection moulding
      • Some of the procedures are carried out by the students in a practical workothers are demonstrated within the framework of company visits or trade fairs.
      • The students will actively participate in a complete digitalized process chain of a polymer product. This includes a polymer compatible product design and calculations with CAE, a flow simulation in Moldflow, a mould design and finally the production of the mould and the parts by 3D printing and injection moulding.
      Learning objectives
Students are aware of the specific advantages of the special processes in polymer processing for cost-efficient, increasingly digitalized serial production of components with high functional integration on the basis of thermoplastic, thermosetting and of elastomeric polymers.
      • The correlation between functional integration and processing methods can be designated and applied for component design
      • The difference to metal and ceramic processing can be classified
