The strategic action fields of the FHNW

The strategic action fields of the FHNW

As part of its 2035 strategy, the FHNW has defined the three strategic action fields New Work, Zero Emission and Future Health.

Visualisation of the three strategic action fields: three partially overlapping circles entitled New Work, Zero Emmission, Future Health

The threee strategic action fields: Zero Emission, Future Health and New Work

In the three strategic action fields New Work, Zero Emission and Future Health, the FHNW will bundle, expand and give greater visibility to its multidisciplinary competences in the socially relevant topics of work, health and environment/sustainability, thus distinguish itself as an institution, act as an innovative driving force for solutions to current problem areas in the economy and society and position itself as an attractive employer.

The strategic action fields of the FHNW

New Work: How will we shape the work of tomorrow?

Digitalisation, automation, globalisation, individual life plans, skills shortage, demographic change and a change in the values of society are causing fundamental and long-lasting shifts in the working world.

Zero Emission: How will we achieve a sustainable society?

The scarcity of resources, environmental pollution and global warming are already key challenges today. New models for dealing with diversity, sustainable development of trade, urban development, circular economy, regenerative systems, CO2 reductions will shape the future.

Future Health: How do we want to stay healthy in the future?

Personalisation, demographic change, digitalisation, psychological stress, healthcare, technological innovations, cost pressure and changes in values in society will give rise to far-reaching changes in the health sector.

The FHNW is pursuing the following goals with the three strategic action fields:

      • Initial phase (up to end of 2024)

        • Filling management positions
        • Procuring third-party funds
      • Setup and implementation phase I (2025–2028)

        • Development of action plans/concepts with specific measures by mid-2025
        • Visibility: Setup and operation of platforms, setup of formats for the professional exchange of ideas, public events and media work
        • Co-creation: Virtual and physical collaboration spaces (co-creation hubs) and development of the framework structures to strengthen cooperation and the professional exchange of ideas
        • Development: Pursuing trends and developments in the strategic action fields, networking in committees and networks as well as development of framework structures for collaborative implementation of strategic action fields in the quadruple performance mandate
        • Impact: Networking with relevant stakeholders, development of support of transdisciplinary collaboration as well as presentation of the results and competences to the FHNW
        • Evaluation: Examination of the implementation of strategic action fields
      • Implementation phase II (2029–2032) and implementation phase III (2033–2036)
