Field of Activity
Jiri Oplatek teaches the practice-based subject of “Authorship”, in which students strengthen their individual design vocabulary and develop methods for carrying out design processes in a targeted and innovative way, while continuously developing their own signature style. Jiri also supervises their practice-based thesis projects.
Biography
From 1993 till 1999, Jiri Oplatek attended the Basel School of Design, from which he received his diploma in Graphic Design in 1999. He then worked at Meissner+Mangold, including the Vitrashop Group. After three years at Meissner + Mangold, he founded the graphic and interaction studio Claudiabasel together with Thomas Bircher and Roland John. He mainly creates corporate designs, posters, and books, especially in the cultural sector, including for the Basel Theatre, Kaserne Basel, the Swiss Architecture Museum and the Tinguely Museum. He has been a lecturer in visual communication at the HGK Basel since 2012. In 2019, Jiri Oplatek won the poster and design competition for Kiel Week 2020 and is responsible for the design of the 100 Best Posters Germany, Austria, Switzerland 2021 competition. His work has been honoured with numerous national and international awards as well as in solo and group exhibitions. He has been a member of the Alliance Graphique Internationale (AGI) since 2018.
